Why Ariana Grande's new '7 Rings' video is a savage smash hit

Ariana Grande in 7 Rings music video

Nokia posted a sardonic video on her Instagram account pointing out the similarities between the two tracks, playing clips from each song.

The track opens with a modern twist on The Sound Of Music's My Favourite Things while the lyrics seem to refer to Grande's doomed relationship with SNL comedian Davidson.

Some fans have been guessing as to where they've heard the hook before with one Arianator posting, "ISTG I'M NOT CRAZY THE FIRST VERSE IS A SAMPLE OF A SONG FROM A PERFUME COMMERCIAL BUT I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IT IS #7Rings".

As the pop star sings: "Wearing a ring but ain't gon' be no Mrs. / Bought matching diamonds for six of my b-s / I'd rather spoil all my friends with riches / Think retail therapy my new addiction".

"Mine" is taken from Princess Nokia's 1992 mixtape from 2017.

The singer had earlier explained to fans on Twitter ahead of the song's release that "7 Rings" is meant to be a friendship anthem. Both songs use hair as an example of reclamation and independence.

According to Digital Music News, the top percentage of musicians also earn 77 percent of the income in the industry. The song draws on plenty of influences, from The Sound of Music to Notorious B.I.G.

Ariana Grande drops another banger!

Nokia then retweeted a tweet that claimed that Grande's "new album literally plagiarizes flows, words, bars from Nokia". While we can still appreciate the empowering message behind Ariana Grande's "7 Rings", we can and should still recognize every other powerful anthem, past, present, and future.
