Huawei unveils Mate X foldable smartphone

Foldable phones are all the rage as Samsung leads the way with the Galaxy Fold

Unfortunately, guests at the pre-MWC event were not allowed to handle the device on show, which makes estimations of its actual performance and usability hard at this point. the Mate X will reportedly cost US$2.600 at it's launch, and become available by the second half of 2019. That said, for a foldable phone, it could be the one of the thinnest. "We're focused on that first but foldables... yes, we will have those devices".

Huawei Mate X is a 5G-enabled smartphone that can fold into a 6.6-inch smartphone and unfold into an 8-inch tablet.

The Huawei Mate X is the second foldable smartphone to be unveiled in the space of just a few days - Samsung pipped Huawei to the post to be first to reveal a foldable device, the Galaxy Fold.

The way it works is that it's one OLED screen that essentially folds down the middle and creates two separate screens when completely folded. - Let's remind you that the X here is pronounced as "EX" and not TEN like in the case of the Apple iPhone - Mate X will now be available in Interstellar Blue colour but more variants are expected in future - The selfie camera in the Mate X is a Lieca camera and Huawei claims it is "best-in-class". According to a recent leak, the phone would go by the "Mate X" title.

Its folded thickness is 11mm which is pretty slim for a foldable device at present and you essentially get a dual-screen smartphone on folding the device. When the device is folded, the main part becomes 6.6” with a resolution of 2480 x 1148 pixels, which is the already known ratio of 19.5:9.

The Chinese firm's presence in the 5G infrastructure market remains a geopolitical talking point, with the United States warning European countries it may find it hard to work with anyone who choose to use Huawei products in their networks, after raising security concerns over the Chinese company. The connection is also said to provide encryption for more privacy and security when using the Mate X.The company said a 30 minute charge can add 85% battery power to the phone.

Huawei is touting its uncompromised experience with this device, since there's no notch and cutout on the display. It also doesn't fold dead-centre, like a book.

The Huawei Mate X will be available in mid-2019 for 2299 Euros.

This device is advertised as “the worlds thinnest foldable phone” - it is 11 mm thick when the Mate X is folded.

The phone includes the company's 7nm Balong 5000 5G modem.

It feels like the DualScreen is an attempt to offer the market something, which makes something that's just. fine as an accessory feel nearly like an apologetic move now so many brands are talking about a glossy, flexible future. "I's better for productivity over 16:9, better for performing, better for reading documentation", said Yu. It appears to be designed for high power enterprise users who need to have long batter life.

The grip bar is also an ergonomic way to, well, firmly grip the Mate X with one hand.

TCL is best known in the United States under its own name for making Roku TVs, but it also makes phones and tablets under the BlackBerry and Alcatel names, manufactures Palm phones, and has a range of other product lines in other countries.

While some skepticism remains about how far and how fast 5G can take hold, it is the latest high-end add-on that manufacturers attending the Mobile World Congress are using to stoke excitement about new gadgets amid slowing sales.

Perhaps the biggest perk of the VIVE Focus Plus is that companies can easily port their PC VR based content to HTC's new system.

Those blistering speeds come as the result of Huawei having expertise making both cellular modems for mobile devices, and the networking equipment those cell networks run on.
