Man held in Brisbane airport bomb scare

Brisbane airport evacuated due to ‘bomb threat’

Canberra introduced sweeping new security laws past year that included allowing Australian police to conduct random identity checks at airports.

Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart praised the courage of officers and partner agencies who dealt with a "highly volatile" situation that safely ended with the 50-year-old man's arrest.

At around 11.30pm Brisbane Airport announced the re-opening of the terminal, however, warned there would be some delays.

The man who allegedly made bomb threats at Brisbane's global airport while wielding a knife is expected to face court.

The incident began just before 9pm (local time) on Saturday in the terminal's food court where the man allegedly pulled out a knife and placed a metal object on a table, claiming it was a bomb, after an argument with a woman. Passengers were evacuated from the terminal, with many missing their flights.
