Daylight saving time is back, which means we're due to spring forward

Daylight Saving Time adjustments could lead to health risks, studies say

It's time to abide by the old adage to spring forward - though it's not spring yet - and switch to daylight saving time.

At 2:00 a.m. on March 10, the majority of Americans will be "springing forward" by turning their clocks forward an hour, giving people that extra dose of daylight in the afternoon.

As we prepare to spring forward this weekend and B.C. Premier John Horgan ponders moving to a unified time zone with the United States, a new study questions the objective of Daylight Saving Time.

Some states are trying do away with daylight saving time. It became a thing again during World War II, and the USA made a decision to stick with it in 1966, though Hawaii and Arizona soon got rid of it.

Germany is credited with enacting the first daylight saving time policy in 1916 to save energy during World War I, according to Time magazine. According to Marketplace, the farming lobby was so heavily against the concept, they kept peacetime daylight saving law from being implemented in the US until 1966.

Daylight-saving time is a killer.

Standard time returns on November 3. Just remember not to freak out in the morning when you see the time on your coffee pot while you'e groggily waking up, okay?

Rauscher's House Bill 43 would have the State petition the U.S. Department of Transportation to initiate proceedings under the Uniform Time Act of 1966, which would include public hearings on changing the time zone boundaries, putting Alaska permanently on Alaska Standard Time.

About 70 countries around the world observe daylight saving, but many countries near the equator do not.

"There is no good reason, from a human health standpoint, to have daylight saving time", he noted.

So, should we still schedule our lives around daylight saving time? Most people blame Ben Franklin for inventing daylight saving time, but it was actually a New Zealand entomologist named George Hudson who officially came up with the concept in 1895.

The study found positive effects in a number of industries but didn't go so far as to recommend making the change. A study published a year ago found daylight saving time transitions may be tied to an increased risk of a common type of stroke.

A woman sets her clock. US Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott are hopeful, however, that this will be the last time it's done in Florida, per a report by ABC Action News.
