Dead, 20 Seriously Injured In Christchurch Terror Attacks, NZ PM Confirms

The shooter, who identified himself on Twitter as "Brenton Tarrant" from Grafton, New South Wales, stormed into Masjid Noor Mosque in Christchurch around 1.40pm local time, gunning down dozens while hundreds of worshipers took part in Friday prayer.

The Christchurch Hospital said earlier that 48 people had suffered gunshot wounds.

Ardern described it as "one of New Zealand's darkest days" and said the events in the city of Christchurch represented "an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence".

"At least two men gunned down at the doorway".

One woman said she even saw the shooting unfold.

The gunman who killed numerous worshippers in a New Zealand mosque on Friday was a right-wing "terrorist" with Australian citizenship, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

Two mosques, the Deans Ave. mosque and the Al Noor mosque, were the targeted locations.

Meanwhile, cities around the US are boosting security at mosques ahead of Friday's prayer services.

Our thoughts are with those affected by this senseless terrorist attack.

One man was arrested and charged with murder in what appeared to be a carefully planned racist attack.

Bush clarified that police had found two improvised explosive devices in one auto. The Prime Minister stated authorities did not believe there were any other suspects beyond the four now in custody.

Meanwhile, New Zealand police said they were hunting for "an active shooter" in the centre of Christchurch city.

The investigation into today's shocking terror attack remains on-going. Police said multiple fatalities had occurred at two mosques, but it was unclear how many attackers were involved.

Bush said he would not at this time "be discussing the offenders' possible motivations or the causes of this incident". Worshippers have been urged to stay away from mosques and police have asked all mosques across the country to shut their doors until further notice. All Christchurch schools were shut down.

It's also been reported that one of the attacks was live streamed online on YouTube and Facebook, although the original videos have been since taken down.

He described the gunman as "white, aged in his 30s or 40s and wearing a uniform".

Seven other people were killed at a second attack terrorist at the Linwood Mosque in Christchurch on Friday.

Witnesses claim the gunman was wearing a military style jacket and carrying an assault weapon.

A woman told the Christchurch Star she lay in her vehicle near the mosque as four to five men came running towards her.
