Facebook Messenger for Android gets dark mode: here’s how to enable it

Facebook Messenger dark mode

Obviously, you'll want to make sure that your Messenger app is updated before you try this, lest you end up sending crescent moons with no reward.

Facebook Messenger users can finally rejoice: There is now an easy way to mitigate late night eye strain and save your battery - as long as you know how to unlock the hidden feature.

"It's now unclear if this method works in all countries and platforms, but Redditors from the Philippines, Portugal, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia report that it worked for them", the GSMArena reported on Saturday.

Over the weekend, Reddit sleuths discovered that dark mode had been added to the Facebook Messenger app.

Some users have reported instances of a pop-up window that will inform you of the new feature, though that didn't happen in our experience. I unlocked the mode by messaging a spammy Facebook bot.

Just go and launch the Facebook Messenger app and send a crescent moon emoji to any of your friends or family.

In case you don't see the animation when you send the Crescent moon emoji, it is recommended to repeat the process.

"Messenger's dark mode provides lower brightness while maintaining contrast and vibrancy".

The firm first rolled out the feature on a smaller scale last fall, testing it out among users in Poland, Bolivia, Colombia and Lithuania.

When a message is deleted, it'll show a marker in the chat telling other users that it's been removed.
