Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin's Bribery Allegations: What We Know

Harkness Tower on the campus of Yale University in New Haven Conn

When Felicity Huffman opened the door to her Los Angeles home at 6 a.m. Tuesday, she was met by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents with their guns drawn, according a source familiar with the incident.

Loughlin and her husband, fashion entrepreneur Mossimo Giannuli, allegedly paid $500,000 to have their two daughters designated as members of the USC rowing team, even though they did not row.

Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were among 50 people charged in what prosecutors called the "largest college admissions scam" ever uncovered by the Department of Justice.

Other prominent parents charged by the Boston U.S. attorney's office include Felicity Huffman, the actor who starred in "Desperate Housewives"; Gordon Caplan, the co-chairman of global law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher; and Bill McGlashan Jr., who heads a buyout investment arm of private equity firm TPG Capital.

The actor supported his wife of more than 20 years on Tuesday at her hearing in an L.A. federal court, where she posted a $250,000 bond. In an email, Louglin reportedly said she would keep the scheme "hush hush", the court documents allege.

A third cooperating witness who began working with prosecutors in February 2019 was identified as Mark Riddell, the director of college entrance exam preparation at a private college preparatory school and sports academy in Bradenton, Florida. Instead, they took her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, into custody, but he was released after posting $1 million bail.

Authorities say the consulting company also bribed administrators of college entrance exams to allow a Florida man to take the tests on behalf of students or replace their answers with his.

Singer used the money to bribe officials at various schools, including Georgetown, Stanford, UCLA, USC, the University of San Diego, the University of Texas, Wake Forest, and Yale.

He was charged Tuesday along with almost 50 other people and faces conspiracy to commit mail fraud and money laundering counts.

The United States Attorney's office in Boston announced charges against dozens of people accused in a nationwide college admissions scheme, including Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, of "Full House" fame.

The agents informed her of the charges in a sweeping college admissions fraud case and handcuffed her, the source said.

John Vandemoor, a former Stanford University sailing coach who worked with Singer, also pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy. The list also includes some Olympic sports coaches at the universities listed, and ABC reports that most of the students who benefited from this alleged scheme weren't aware of their parents' tactics.

IMG Academy in Bradenton said late Tuesday that 36-year-old Mark Riddell has been suspended indefinitely.

"The parents and other defendants are clearly the prime movers in this fraud".

Mr Macy has not been charged, but authorities have not said why. "Here, [the documents suggest that the FBI] has recordings of phone calls with Ms. Huffman discussing the arrangement, including how the organization planned to hide the $15,000 as a charitable donation".
