India returns key diplomat to Pakistan as tensions ease

Pakistan's big statement: Detained 121 terrorists, took control of 182 madrasas

While China's vice-minister Kong Xuanyou traveled to Islamabad to discuss the India-Pakistan conflict with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, he did not make a similar trip to New Delhi.

Pakistan says it has arrested 44 people, including the brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar who was apparently named in a dossier given to Islamabad by New Delhi.

Amid soaring tensions between the two neighbouring countries, Pakistan had called back its high commissioner in India for consultations on Februray 18.

Last week, Pakistan and India both carried out reciprocal air bombing operations in Kashmir, marking an escalation of periodic clashes along the LOC not seen in decades but that appeared to be easing in recent days with Islamabad's return of a captured Indian pilot.

Pakistan is behaving like a spokesperson of terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and despite big claims, took no action against terror outfits operating from its soil, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a weekly press briefing on Saturday.

In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Donald Trump administration has issued a travel advisory suggesting Americans to avoid visiting Jammu and Kashmir (except the eastern Ladakh region and its capital, Leh) due to terrorism and civil unrest.

He said Pakistan should take concrete steps "against terrorists and terror infrastructure" on its territory.

Asked whether it was right to say that the worst was over and de-escalation has taken place between the two neighbours, Kumar said at a media briefing on Saturday that India's airstrike on a terrorist training camp inside Pakistan on February 26 was "necessitated by the lack of action by Pakistan on the perpetrators of Pulwama attack".

"This government will not allow Pakistan's land to be used for any kind of outside terrorism", Khan said today while addressing a public rally in southern Pakistan.

The prime minister said after the Uri attack in 2016, Indian soldiers conducted a surgical strike for the first time, teaching the terrorists a lesson in a language they understand.

Pakistan has denied any damage or casualties, and independent reporting has shown the strikes hit a heavily forested area with little infrastructure nearby. However, a day after on February 27, Pakistan attacked Indian military installation with as many as 20 fighter jets, the official claimed.

Since then, the two sides have exercised restraint amid calls from the global community to avoid war.
