Janice Freeman, Local Singer and ‘The Voice’ Alum, Dies at 33

Janice Freeman The Voice- Season 13

Today brings about some sad news to report, as The Voice Season 13 competitor Janice Freeman passed away suddenly on Saturday evening.

She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

In a statement posted on the late singer's Instagram Story by her team, the cause of death was due to a severe case of pneumonia and a blood clot that travelled to her heart.

Janice earned a spot on "Team Miley Cyrus" back in 2017 when she featured on season 13 of the popular U.S. series. She was one of coach Miley Cyrus' personal favorites.

"Just before I stepped on stage to sing with Tori Kelly at her Orange County show tonight I received word that my handsome friend Janice Freeman passed away".

Hudson sent her condolences to the Freeman family via Instagram.

Cyrus had remained involved in Freeman's post-Voice life by helping her get established with new housing for several months until she was able to obtain a permanent residence. "This represents you perfectly", Cyrus wrote on top of a picture of a rainbow. According to her manager, the singer had been battling bronchitis and lupus.

Freeman's team called her a "survivor and fighter" who was a "beautiful force in this world".

Others also shared tributes to Freeman on social media. "She had traveled to Kansas City just a week ago (Friday, Feb 22) to perform at a gala one of my client's was sponsoring, and performed beautifully".

Freeman is survived by her husband, Dion; her daughter, Hannah; her mother, Janice; brothers and sisters; and many extended family.

That night, a stunned Cyrus told her through tears, "I truly believe that if anybody deserves to stick around in this competition, it is you".

Janice Freeman performs at The COTA Awards (Celebration of the Arts) on September 15, 2018 in Malibu, California.
